What actually happens to your existing text and photos during a redesign

When PROOF48 rebuilds a site, your existing text and photos are the raw material: the 48-hour offer includes copy cleanup or placeholder copy written for you, and you supply photos you have the right to use. At hour 48 you get a live preview and pay only if you keep it. If you walk away, you owe nothing.

01Your text: what is kept, tidied or cut

Go through the old site page by page and sort every block into three piles. Keep what is true and does work: what you sell, where, for whom, the facts a customer asks about. Tidy what is right but badly written, because a new layout shows weak sentences more than an old one did. Cut what only fills space, such as welcome lines and adjectives a competitor could paste onto their own page. Our post on writing your own website copy shows how to test a sentence. The 48-hour offer includes copy cleanup, or placeholder copy written for you where a page has nothing usable. Placeholder is a draft, not a decision. Check every number on the preview, because our terms put the accuracy of business information on you: prices, hours, phone, address and any wording with a legal meaning.

  • Keep: the facts a customer asks about, in your own words
  • Tidy: right content, weak sentences
  • Cut: welcome lines, empty adjectives, duplicated paragraphs
  • Check on the preview: prices, hours, phone, address, any legal wording

02Your photos: what survives and what does not

Ask three things of each photo. Is it yours to use? Our terms say you confirm you have the right to use any logos, images and text you send us, and a photo taken by a former agency or pulled from a stock site is not automatically yours, so check the licence. Is the file good enough? The copy on your old site is usually a resized version, so the original from your phone or your photographer will look sharper in a new layout. Does it show your real work, space or team? Our post on what to give a web designer calls photos of your real work the one genuine exception to leaving things for later, because nobody can invent them. Our 48-hour page says anything waiting on photography that does not exist yet gets its own timeline.

  • Rights: confirm you may use each image; check stock photos and those from a former agency
  • Quality: send originals, not the resized copies from the old site
  • Relevance: your real work, space and team beat anything generic
  • Photography that does not exist yet: its own timeline, not 48 hours

03What happens to the old site, and what you keep if you walk

The preview sits on its own link. Our 48-hour page says that when you approve, we point your domain at the new site the same day. If you do not approve, you owe nothing and you leave with the preview link only, not the code or the domain. Your texts and photos stay yours either way, and after you pay, the code, domain, hosting account and content are yours too. Before any redesign, save your own copy of the old text and photos somewhere outside the old site, so nothing depends on anyone's goodwill. Old page addresses are a separate matter: each one needs a redirect to its new page, or the rankings go with it. Our post on rebuilding a site without losing rankings covers that, and we do not repeat it here.

  • The preview has its own link; the domain moves when you approve
  • Walk away: you owe nothing and keep your texts and photos; the preview itself is not handed over
  • Save your own copy of the old text and images before you start
  • Redirect every old address: see the post on rebuilding without losing rankings

04Where PROOF48 is the wrong choice

The 48-hour offer covers a business website of up to about five pages, or a landing page, and costs 500 to 2,500 EUR. A site with a long archive of old articles, products or project pages is past that, and our terms say larger or custom projects are scoped and quoted separately. A store with a cart and checkout is a different job: 2,500 to 4,500 EUR, with its own timeline, never 48 hours. Sites in more than two languages also get their own timeline. Our pay-after-delivery page lists two more cases where building first does not fit: projects that need legal or medical review before a word ships, and work where the content does not exist and nobody can decide it. If a committee must approve the direction, 48 hours is the wrong frame too.

  • About five pages or a landing page: 500 to 2,500 EUR, 48 hours
  • A long archive: scoped and quoted separately, per our terms
  • A store: 2,500 to 4,500 EUR, its own timeline
  • Legal or medical review before publishing, or a committee: not a fit
From a build we shipped

A rebuilt salon site, and what its record leaves out

SCP Shine & Style already had a website, and the brief says it was built badly and did not reflect the work. We rebuilt it with a page for each service, each with its own copy and media, shipped 21 salon video clips, and redirected every old WordPress address. The case study does not list which of the old texts or photos were kept, so we make no claim about that.

Questions, answered

Will my old text be copied over exactly?

Only what you tell us must stay. Say in your first message which wording has to stay as written, such as a legal notice or a price list. The 48-hour offer includes copy cleanup, or placeholder copy written for you, and we publish no further rule on it.

Will I lose my Google rankings?

The biggest risk is old addresses without redirects. Changed titles and rewritten text can also move things, and nobody can promise a position, so we do not. Our post on rebuilding without losing rankings has the checklist.

Who owns my photos and texts?

You do. Our pay-after-delivery page says that after you pay, the code, domain, hosting account and content are yours. You also confirm you have the right to use what you send us.

What if I have no good photos?

Send what you have. A page waiting on photography that does not exist yet gets its own timeline, so say so in your first message and we will tell you what it means for the 48 hours.

Where PROOF48 fits

In a redesign your text and photos are sorted rather than dumped: keep what is true, tidy what is weak, cut what only fills space, reuse photos you have the right to use. PROOF48's 48-hour site of up to about five pages costs 500 to 2,500 EUR, you see it as a live preview first, and no payment is required upfront for a standard build. Save your own copy of everything before you start.
