What SEO actually looks like for an auto repair shop

SEO for an auto repair shop is mostly local: a Business Profile with the shop's real name and hours, a page for each repair you want to be found for, honest prices and estimate rules, and reviews asked of every customer. Nobody can promise a position, and Google says a better local ranking cannot be paid for. PROOF48's FOUND plan costs 297 EUR a month.

01Ranking has three parts, and a shop controls two of them

Google describes local ranking as relevance, distance and prominence: how well a profile matches what someone typed, how far the business is from the searcher, and how well known it is. A repair shop cannot move its workshop, so a rival two streets closer to the searcher keeps that edge. The other two are yours. Google says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up, and that more reviews and positive ratings can help local ranking. It also says there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking. Anyone who sells you a guaranteed position is selling something Google says cannot be bought.

  • Distance: fixed, so do not chase it
  • Relevance: a complete, accurate profile and pages that name the jobs you do
  • Prominence: reviews and being known, which take months to build
  • No position can be requested or paid for

02The profile: real name, one main category, honest hours

Google's guidelines say the name should reflect your real-world name as used on the storefront and the website, so a profile called 'Service Auto Non-Stop Cheap Sector 4' breaks the rule however tempting it is. They also say to use as few categories as possible to describe your core business, and to give your regular customer-facing hours, unless you work by appointment only. For a shop that means choosing the category from Google's list that matches your main work, not stacking five. List the services you really perform, add photos of the workshop, the team and the front of the building, and keep name, address and hours identical on the website. Say whether you take walk-ins or work by appointment. Google's guidelines also say that a business that operates only by appointment should not provide hours.

  • Name: exactly what is on your sign, with no keywords, prices or 'non-stop'
  • One main category from Google's list, and as few extra ones as possible
  • Services: only what you really perform, in the words customers use
  • Hours: your regular hours, unless you work by appointment only, and a clear note on walk-ins or appointments

03A page per repair, answering what a worried driver asks

Someone searching for a repair is often worried about two things: whether the problem is serious and whether the bill will be fair. A page per job can answer both. Brake pads and discs, diagnostics, air conditioning, tyre changes, a service: each gets what the job includes, roughly how long the car stays, how you give an estimate, and that you call before doing anything extra. Publish your own numbers, a labour rate or a 'from' price, because we do not know them and a vague page persuades nobody. List only the makes you really work on. Google's SEO guide says a good title is unique to the page and accurately describes it, which one 'Services' page cannot be for twelve jobs.

  • A page for each job you want to be found for: brakes, diagnostics, air conditioning, tyres, servicing
  • On each: what is included, how long it takes, how the estimate works, when you call before extra work
  • Your real labour rate or a 'from' price, and your warranty exactly as you give it
  • The makes you really service, and no others

04Reviews: ask at pickup, offer nothing, answer usefully

The best moment to ask is when the customer collects the car and has seen the work. Google says you can ask customers to visit a Google link or scan a QR code, so print the code on the invoice folder or the key tag. It also says offering free or discounted goods or services in exchange for reviews is strictly prohibited, which rules out the free oil change and the discount on the next visit. Ask every customer the same way, not only the ones who left smiling. For replies, Google suggests focusing on reviews where you can share a helpful update or answer a question. Keep each reply polite and leave out the plate number and the details of the job.

  • Ask at pickup, with the same link or QR code for everyone
  • No discount, free oil change or gift in exchange for a review
  • Reply where you can add a useful update or answer a question
  • Never put plate numbers or job details in a public reply

05Where PROOF48 is the wrong choice for a repair shop

We have not run SEO for a repair shop, and none of our eight published builds is one. FOUND, at 297 EUR a month, includes Google Business Profile management, local SEO for 5 target keywords, 2 AI blog posts a month, schema, a monthly ranking report, and competitor and review monitoring. It fits one shop, one location and a handful of core jobs. It is the wrong choice if you need customers this week, because search builds over months and paid ads are faster (ad management is in GROWTH, at 1,497 EUR a month plus ad spend). It is wrong if the phone is the whole business, because our plans do not answer calls. With no website at all, the site comes first: up to about five pages, 500 to 2,500 EUR, built in 48 hours and paid for only after the preview. If you drive to the customer, our electrician post covers service areas.

  • No repair shop among our eight published builds
  • FOUND covers 5 target keywords: enough for one shop and a handful of jobs
  • Need customers this week: ads first, search later
  • The phone is the whole business: our plans do not answer calls

A salon with a street address, and what carries over to a shop

None of our eight builds is a repair shop. The closest is SCP Shine & Style, a salon with a street address in Sector 3, Bucharest. It already had a badly built site, so we rebuilt it and redirected every old WordPress URL so nothing already indexed broke. We gave each service its own page with its own copy and media and put a landmarks line on every page for local search around Dristor and Titan. For a repair shop the same pattern means a page per job and a line naming the streets drivers know. We do not publish the salon's revenue or booking counts, because we do not measure them.

Questions, answered

Do I need a Google Business Profile if I already have a website?

Yes. Google says businesses with complete and accurate information are more likely to show up in local results, and the profile is what customers see in the map results. The profile and the site should say the same thing.

Can I put 'non-stop' or the neighbourhood in the profile name?

Only if it is part of the name on your sign. Google's guidelines say the name should reflect your real-world name, as used on the storefront and the website. Opening hours go in the hours field.

Can I give a discount to customers who leave a review?

No. Google treats free or discounted goods or services in exchange for reviews as strictly prohibited. Ask every customer the same way and offer nothing in return.

How long before a shop ranks better?

We promise no position and no date, and Google says nobody can pay for a better local ranking. Our SEO page says technical fixes reach Google within days, while content authority builds over quarters.
