01What Instagram genuinely does better
Pretending social media is useless would be dishonest. For some businesses it is the whole channel and a website adds little.
- Discovery by people who were not looking for you.
- Showing work in progress, which nobody visits a website to see.
- Replying in the place the customer already is.
- Zero cost to start and no maintenance.
02What it cannot do
These are the gaps that cost money quietly, because you never see the customer who gave up.
- Someone Googling your service at 11pm will not find your profile. They will find a competitor with a website.
- You do not own the audience. An account can be restricted or lost and the list goes with it.
- Prices and services live in a highlight nobody can search.
- Booking means a message, and a message means a person has to answer it.
- A grid does not answer the questions a buyer asks before spending real money.
03The honest answer for most small businesses
Not either-or. They do different jobs, and the site is the one that works while you sleep.
- Instagram to be found and to show the work.
- The website to convert, take the booking and hold the prices.
- The link in your bio pointing at a page that answers, not a homepage that impresses.
- Your Google Business Profile pointing at the site, which is what makes you show up on Maps.
What a salon gained that Instagram could not give it
SCP Shine & Style had an audience before it had a working website. What the site added was not followers. It was being findable by someone in the neighbourhood who had never heard of them, prices sitting on a page instead of inside a story highlight, and a booking path that does not need anyone to read a message. The social account still does the discovery. The site is what turns a stranger at 11pm into an appointment.

Is a link-in-bio page enough?
As a stopgap yes, as a business no. Those pages are not indexed the way a real site is, you do not own the domain, and they cannot hold service pages, prices or structured data.
My customers are all on WhatsApp anyway.
Then the site should hand them to WhatsApp with one tap, with the context already filled in. A website does not replace the channel that works, it feeds it.
How much does it cost to find out?
With PROOF48, nothing up front. You send a reference link, we build the site in 48 hours, and you pay only if you want to keep it.
Where PROOF48 fits
Every build on our work page belongs to a business that already had social media. The site is what let them be found by people who were not already following, and take bookings without answering a message at midnight.
Cosmin Tiu · Founder, PROOF48
Building software since 2018. PROOF48 ships business websites in 48 hours and invoices afterwards, which means every opinion here was paid for in builds rather than in theory.
