01What a chatbot specifically is
A chatbot is software with a defined scope: it reads a message, matches it against known intents or a trained model, and returns an answer or an action inside one channel. It does not have a desk, a calendar of its own tasks, or judgment beyond what it was built to recognise. That narrowness is the point. A chatbot built for booking questions is good at booking questions and should say plainly when something falls outside that, handing off to a person rather than guessing at an answer it was never built to give.
- Reads a message, matches it to a known intent, answers inside one channel
- No judgment beyond what it was explicitly built to recognise
- Should hand off cleanly rather than guess outside its scope
02Why virtual assistant means three different things
The phrase virtual assistant covers a human freelancer answering emails from home, a chatbot rebranded with a friendlier name, and a voice system that picks up the phone, and vendors rarely specify which one they are selling until you ask directly. That ambiguity matters because the three options have completely different limits: a human can use judgment a script cannot, a chatbot cannot pick up a phone call, and a voice system cannot manage your inbox. Buying the wrong one because the label sounded right is a common, avoidable mistake.
- Human freelancer, rebranded chatbot, or voice system: three different products, one label
- Ask directly which one a vendor means before paying
- Each has a different limit: a script cannot replace judgment, a chatbot cannot answer a phone
Where the label stops and a person answers
Santorini Hotel publishes its reception, restaurant and complaints phone lines directly on the site and in structured data, but none of those calls are answered by a chatbot or a voice assistant, a person at the front desk answers every one. That is a deliberate line, not a gap we are embarrassed by: the hotel needed the right number easy to find, and the honest label for what answers it is a receptionist, not a virtual assistant of any kind.

Does PROOF48 sell human virtual assistants?
No. We build a website chatbot as part of AUTOMATE, and a WhatsApp bot or voice system as a custom build, priced on request. A human answering your inbox from home is a different service, not one we provide.
Can a chatbot and a voice system share the same knowledge?
Yes, when both are built, they read from the same business rules rather than separate one-off scripts, so the answer to the same question does not change depending on the channel.
Where PROOF48 fits
A chatbot is narrow by design: one channel, one known set of questions. Virtual assistant is a looser label that can mean a human, a chatbot or a voice system, so ask which one before you pay. PROOF48 builds the website chatbot inside AUTOMATE; a WhatsApp bot or voice assistant is custom, priced on request; a human assistant is not something we provide.
